A new season has begun for Red Wolves Football, but the first game made one thing clear from the start: this team is ready to face whatever challenges come.

On Saturday, September 5th, the Red Wolves hosted the Lobos from Universidad Latina de México at the Arkansas State University Querétaro facilities, within the Elisia Education Hub, to play their first game of the 2026 ONEFA Major League season.

Nearly 500 people accompanied the student-athletes from the stands, turning the first home game into an encounter marked by the energy of students, coaches and members of the A-State Querétaro community.

It was also a night of firsts: the debut of the new uniform, the introduction of a new staff, and the start of the season for a competitive roster of 70 student-athletes, including 30 new players.

But the story of the match did not begin as Red Wolves had hoped.

From a 14-point deficit to turning the game around

During the first quarter, Red Wolves found themselves 14 points behind on the scoreboard.

The challenge was set.

Instead of letting the disadvantage define the match, the players found a way to respond.

The team adjusted, competed, and began to build their comeback play by play. The reaction gained momentum, culminating in 21 points scored in a single quarter, completely changing the rhythm of the game.

When the game reached its decisive moments, a three-point field goal sealed the comeback and secured the victory.

More than the result, the match showed what can happen when a team learns to respond to pressure, trust in its preparation, and stay united when the situation gets complicated.

It was only the first game of the season, but also the first chapter of what this group can build together.

70 student-athletes begin a new path

The 2026 season marks a new starting point for Red Wolves Football.

A roster of 70 student-athletes begins this journey with diverse experiences, goals, and opportunities ahead. For 30 of them, this game also marked the start of their first season as part of the program.

Every training session, every competition for a position, and every game will be an opportunity to continue growing and defining the place each player wants to build within the team.

The new program structure seeks to support this process through higher standards of preparation, internal competition, and a culture in which every student-athlete has to work to advance.

At the head of this stage is Tadeo de la Garza as Head Coach, accompanied by Alfredo Ravelo as Offensive Coordinator and René Gómez Luna as Defensive Coordinator.

His role will be to guide a group that now has the opportunity to decide how far they want to take this season.

A community that is also part of history

The first match of 2026 wasn’t just experienced on the pitch. Nearly 500 spectators were present to support the Red Wolves during the start of the season and experience every moment of the team’s comeback.
